I genuinely think Nigerians make the best and most diverse music across the world. Feel free to disagree but I’m not ready to ever change my opinion.
For those who are huge fans of Nigerian music, here are 8 new songs which should make their way to your playlist and might have to remain there for many weeks, months, or maybe all year long.
In no particular order, here we go:
Larry Gaaga – Iworiwo ft. 2Baba
When longtime friends come together to make music, it often sounds organic and soothing. Even though 2Baba tried to court controversy in order to push this track, upon the release I feel the legend should have saved himself that stress and shameful route.
On ‘Iworiwo’ we get to hear what Larry Gaaga will sound like if he was a singer. The video for the feel-good love song also features 2Baba’s wife, Annie.
Mut4y – 4 Play ft. Shaydee
One half of Legendury Beatz’ Mut4y puts former EME artiste, Shaydee on this romantic tune. As expected, Shaydee comes through with his power-packed vocals.
LadiPoe – Jaiye
Ladipoe is having the time of his life and he is telling anyone who cares to listen. Could this tropical tune become the rapper’s pathway into making more commercial tunes?
Time will tell what the hip-hop star and Mavin Records have up their sleeves but for now, enjoy Jaiye as produced by Johnny Drille.
Burna Boy – Dangote
Nigeria’s most successful artiste in 2018, Burna Boy has definitely started 2019 on a high. This time around, Burna pays tribute to the richest black person in the world on a slow-tempo tune produced by his new collaborator, Kel-P.
If Dangote still dey look for money, who are you?
Patoranking – Confirm ft. Davido
The sheer star power of heavyweights coming together will see this track through. Patoranking who spent 2018 exploring on various sounds and trying to infiltrate other markets comes back home with this prayer for more money.
What better way to do than with the Headboy of 30 Billion Gang, Davido.
Fiziedeen – Old Customer
You can be a lightweight in an industry but that definitely doesn’t reduce you to a newbie. With a couple of songs to his credit, rising rap-artiste Fiziedeen recalibrates on ‘Old Customer’.
His old-time collaborator, Jonn Deux is responsible for the production.
Blackmagic – Ponmo
“Ikon said ‘Don’t say, put it in a song’. So I speak my mind and I go still speak more. You either love me or hate me or eat ponmo”
BlackMagic has been plotting a huge comeback since 2018 with some dope singles. Now, he is almost done with that graph with ‘Ponmo’.
Easy oh! Africa!! This is hip-hop!!!
Slimcase – Azaman ft. Larry Gaaga, Peruzzi, 2Baba, DJ Neptune
This song is definitely in contention for best collabo in the first quarter of 2019.
The Shepeteri sound has finally gone home and former custodians like Slimcase and Mr. Real are adjusting to life after Shaku and aren’t doing so badly with that.
Slimcase is the ‘Money Man’ and he needed Peruzzi’s excellence on the one. 2Baba came through with some dope Idoma lines on this one. Larry Gaaga is always a pleasure on the screen and for strategic reasons, DJ Neptune completes the list of stars responsible for Azaman.
Peruzzi should really be proud for his performance on this one. Ruzzi baaaad!
